Proverbs 12:7
“The wicked are overthrown and perish, but the house of the righteous will stand.”
This verse reminded me of the story with the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. The wolf representing the devil, comes by and starts blowing down these houses. One was made of straw, another of sticks, and the last one of bricks. The brick house was the house that the wolf just could not blow down, even if he used all his strength.
The wolf first goes to the straw house and he blows and blows. The house just flies away with the wind because it was so temporary. The second house was the house made of sticks, and it was a little sturdier than the first, but not sturdy enough to endure the winds being spit at it. Soon enough the house of the sticks came crashing down. The third house is brick and the wolf was starting to get frustrated because he’s been huffing and puffing and he cannot get this house to crumble. So he begins to use his other tricks, he starts asking the little piggy to come out of his house and he begins to tempt him. The little piggy keeps telling him “no” and the wolf begins to threaten the little piggy and tells him he will come inside if the piggy doesn’t come outside. The devil knows he can’t come inside unless he is invited and he knows he can’t get to you unless you step out of God’s protection. The little piggy didn’t waiver, he stood firm and he said “I trust in my house and in what I built on my foundation in and it will not falter. I have faith in my house and in my God.”
So many times the devil comes to try to blow us down and he’s spitting lies at us to try to make us crumble. If he doesn’t succeed in that way then he begins to tempt us to try to lure us out. If that doesn’t work then he begins to threaten us. Sometimes with what we fear the most. Sometimes the enemy succeeds because people’s foundations are built on the wrong things. Don’t base yourself off of money, lust, earthly love and relationships, or any temporary thing of this world because your house will shatter right before your eyes because your foundation wasn’t built on something stable.
You have to plant your roots in eternity and eternal things.
God will help you build your house, your shield, to protect you, but you have to allow His help first. Then have confidence in the strength and the capability of your God.
That is a House of the Lord and where God is, no evil can be.
Don’t build your life on temporary foundations and expect it to withstand a storm.
The devil will blow straight through anything built on worldly things.
Matthew 7:24-27
Exodus 5:6-23
They used straw to make bricks. It represents a process. The piggy that had a house built of bricks had faith through the process and now has a solid foundation. The piggy that used twigs didn’t even want anything to do with God and he went his own way, which you saw how that turned out. The piggy that used straw completed part of the process, but not the whole process. He saw what God had given him and he started out with faith, but he didn’t follow through with the process. It was a long process to use the straw to make brick, but it was so worth it.
If you don’t truly go through the process of building up your relationship with God that is what the houses represent. The one that built with the bricks went through the trials and the processes of their relationship with God and came out even stronger than they started. Their relationship was much stronger and healthier so when the devil, the wolf, came to blow down his house, piggy wasn’t phased. He had built up the faith to stand up to the devil and know that he wasn’t getting in because God was bigger than any situation he faced. God is bigger than anything the devil can say to you or feed you. The one that built his house out of twigs completely didn’t want anything to do with God . He did his own thing, went his own way and his house was destroyed because he had no foundation. The straw house is what you would consider a lukewarm Christian. They started the process, but didn’t want to grow in the process. They were stagnant with no progression. If God gives you seeds, you need to do something with it. He had the material God had given him, but he never made a foundation with it, and he crumbled.
At the beginning of March, I got a text from a girl. She gave me a word from God. She said,” I was praying for you, and I saw this giant white flower with roots deeper and wider than a tree. The flower was so beautiful and so strong. I saw a hand try to pull it from its roots, but it didn’t budge because of how rooted it was in the soil. As soon as the hand let go of the flower it wasn’t even crushed. It bounced right back to its shape and looked perfect. This is such a representation of who you are. You carry great strength and great beauty. Things and people will come along to try to uproot you, but stand firm in all you know God has called you to be and do.”
Daniel 11:32
I was scrolling through Instagram the other day, and I saw something that said “Instead of asking someone how their day was, ask them what is something that made them smile today.” I asked God that the other night, and He responded saying that He is using quarantine for good. He took away all of our crutches (Ex. work, school, sports, etc.) and we had to depend on Him. He has shown us through this pandemic that we rely on unsteady sources of happiness and fulfillment. He is the only steady, reliable foundation. My God is unshakable. The more you and I root ourselves in Him, and place our foundation in Him, the harder we make the devil work to shake us. He can try all he wants, but I know that God can handle it all.
It is a process to build a foundation, but God is my only foundation because He is the only One that can withstand the test of time.
