The Proverbs 31 Woman

The Proverbs 31 woman has always been a role model to me. But what is she really? How can I be like her? I took some time over the last few weeks to go through and break down her attributes and now I will get to share those with you! Do you want to be more like the Proverbs 31 woman? Keep reading!

Verse 10 "An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels."

The Proverbs 31 woman exists, but she was hard to find. She did not proclaim her virtuous spirit, she did not brag about her desirability. She simply lived and let Jesus guide her life.

Verses 11 - 12 "The heart of her husband trusts her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life."

She is consistently loyal to her husband and family. Her work adds to their lives. Everything she does is for the good of those whom she loves. She does nothing out of selfishness, only out of love.

Verses 13 - 14 "She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar"

She works to meet her family's needs and demonstrates her strong work ethic. She would go far to seek out the best for her family. She is diligent in providing for her family.

Verse 15 "She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her husband and portions for her maidens."

She is strong in her virtues. She cares for her home and manages it well.

Verse 16 "She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard."

She is resourceful and entrepreneurial. She is strategic with her investing and reinvesting. She is not afraid to make a profit and build wealth.

Verse 17 "She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong."

She is strong in her virtue of rigorous work. She is not too weak to obtain her goals.

Verses 18 - 19 "She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hand to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle"

What she produces and provides for her family in clothing, food, and wealth is beneficial to them. She works to the best of her ability in all she does and never cuts corners.

Verse 20 "She opens her hands to the poor and reaches out to the needy."

She acknowledges that her possessions are God-given and is generous with her resources.

Verses 21 - 22 "She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple."

She anticipates her family's needs and prepares provision before it is needed. She takes care of herself- her body, mind, and spirit.

Verse 23 "Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land."

Her reputation is well upheld by her husband. She has chosen the people who surround her well.

Verse 24 "She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant."

She is faithful with her responsibilities and delegates them well. In her free time, she engages in sales for the benefit of her household.

Verse 25 "She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."

She has the character of a woman who fears the Lord. She displays divine wisdom, giving her confidence to face an uncertain future.

Verse 26 "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."

She is wise and her teachings are tempered with mercy.

Verse 27 "She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."

She cares for her home and manages it well.

Verse 28 - 29 "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."

She is greatly respected and she earns the praises of her family because she honors and prioritizes them.

Verses 30 - 31 "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands and let her works praise her in the gates."

She glorifies and fears the Lord more than she cares about her appearance. The result of all of her efforts will be remembered well. She is less concerned with her status or position and more concerned with the mission driving her ambitions.

Let me ask again, are you striving to live a Proverbs 31 lifestyle? I encourage you to make an effort to live a life of virtue and desire God-driven character.
