Step Up, Step In

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

Worship has always been what I can only describe as an outlet of escape for me. For as long as I can remember, when couldn’t find words to describe how I was feeling, I found songs. When I’m anxious, I sing. When I’m stressed, I listen to music. I love to communicate through song. But it wasn’t until I was presented with an opportunity to use this ability that I truly found the power of my voice. Almost two years ago, the kids pastor at my church asked me to step in as a mentor and leader to some of the preteen girls. I, of course, said yes and was so honored to get to speak into the lives of young girls who were so eager to hear God speak in their lives. As I started getting familiar with them I realized just how much they loved to worship. So, I went to the kids pastor and asked her if I could help out with the praise and worship team. This was probably the most amazing thing I ever could have done. I was already speaking life and encouragement into them. Now I had the opportunity to pour into these girls through my voice, something I had always dreamed of doing. And it only grew from there. Now, literal years later, I have a bunch of amazing crazy kids that are not only inspired by me, but inspire me right back. These kids have made me braver, stronger, and more confident than I could’ve ever imagined before. All of this because I chose to step out of where I was and into my gifting.

How often do we stand back and away from our fittings and callings because they’re uncomfortable? Why do we hold ourselves back just because it’s what we’re familiar with? God has put gifts and callings inside of each of us so that we can use them. Our gifts aren’t just there for decoration. They aren’t just something to put on your resume or brag about when you’re feeling self conscious. God provided you with all of the means necessary to reach the people He assigned to your life. Will you choose to use what He has given you? Step up and step in to your calling.
