Have you ever been in a situation that people see differently? It seems that they are all in their own reality. People’s perspectives form their reality, and effect the way they see situations.
Your perspective is a choice. You can’t choose the situations you face, but you can choose how you face them.
Numbers 13
Moses sent men to scout out the Promised Land. After 40 days, the men returned with a very negative report. “The land is flowing with milk and honey, but the people living there are very strong.” Do you see that? Those men saw the good in the land, but chose to focus on the negative so much that it became an obstacle to their promise. One of the scouts, Caleb, saw the same things that the other men did, but he chose to see them in a different way. Caleb was confident that they could conquer the giants because he knew how big his God was. The other men felt like grasshoppers beside the giant because they were relying on their own strength. Caleb knew God’s strength so he saw defeating the giants as a certainty. Your perspective and faith will either help you win or lose a battle. The men Caleb went with saw the same thing he did, but they saw it through a different light which changed their reality of the Promised Land actually becoming theirs. Your enemy is as big or as small as you make it. You can either face them with a bug mentality or a giant killer mentality. Don’t let the battle happen to you, happen to your battle. Show up and step up as men and women of God.
The other scouts didn’t want to fight for their promise, they wanted to wait for the giants to leave. Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
My freshman year of high school I was a manager for our school’s football team. We went to state that year, and it was definitely a time to remember. A huge thunderstorm came in and it was down pouring. Everyone was hiding out in the locker rooms and under the bleachers to stay dry. Which was probably the safer choice looking back on it...whoops! I convinced my friend to go dance in the middle of a thunderstorm with me because I love rain. To say we got some crazy looks would be an understatement. I saw a kid that looked fearful of the storm and, with her parents permission, took her to dance in the rain with me. She went from seeing the storm as a time to be afraid to a time to be joyous and giggle.
We had a banquet at the end of the year for the football team. While reminiscing on the moments we shared together, someone said that they will always remember me as someone who loved to dance in the rain. Not only in thunderstorms, but in every situation of life because I believe there can always be good found in the midst of any situation.
I made light of the situation at the football game which reminded of this verse:
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is good, your whole body will be filled with light.” Matthew 6:22
Whatever season you are in right now, don’t just wait for the storm to pass. Don’t wait for it to blow over, find the joy in it and dance in the rain.
If you take anything away from this blog, I encourage you to choose to see the good. Caleb chose to see the good and all of the wonderful possibilities while everyone else chose to focus on what seemed hard.
Choose to see the good in people.
Choose to see the good in situations.
Choose to see the good in the midst of hardships and heartbreak.
Choose to see the good in every single season.
I promise the good is there. Our main focus will become the biggest thing we see. Focusing on the negative will give you a negative perspective, but focusing on the positive will bring you a positive perspective. Let God fight for you and ask Him to show you the good in every circumstance.
