Free Fall

For me, surrender has always been a difficult word to swallow. It always sounded to me like losing, and that's not really something I enjoy doing. Even the thought of losing control scares me. Our human instincts tell us that surrendering may or may not work out in our favor. No wonder it's so hard to surrender to God. But the Bible clearly points out that surrender is what's best for us.
Following Jesus wholeheartedly requires submission to Jesus. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that this will be easy, but He makes known that it will always be worth it. We can't follow our own agenda and simultaneously follow Him. We don't know- and don't need to know- where He will lead us, but we do know that it will be good.
I remember one simple prayer that completely changed my life. I was at a point where I wasn't feeling God, I was overwhelmed, and I just needed a breakthrough. It wasn't for salvation or healing, not because I wanted God to take all of my struggles away. I just needed something. In complete desperation, I fell to my knees and cried out. "Jesus, I'm surrendering. I can't do this on my own anymore. I know I'm not where you need me. Right here, right now, have your way. Take me where you want me to go. Tell me what you want me to do. I will say what you want me to say, give what you want me to give. I just need you right now." Don't get me wrong, this wasn't an instant change. God and I are still working on the stuff I don't want to give Him. But when you surrender, you fall into His love instead of falling into your mess.
There’s freedom in the free fall. There’s a release in the dive. Surrender is not a promise of perfection, it's a statement of release. All you have to do is let go and take the jump. I encourage you to pray that prayer today. Give it all up. Let Hime have His way.
